Night life
Discover the busy lives of nocturnal animals as we explore their world. Owls, Badgers and bats have all adapted to the dark, evolving super-senses such as sensitive hearing and night vision. Other creatures cleverly use the cover of darkness to hunt or hide.
In Charlotte Owen's blog, learn more about the amazing ways nature has taken advantage of the opportunities of the night.
Pleaching, bill hocks and plodgers
Hedge laying is a traditional country craft, generally undertaken in the late autumn or winter. The stems of the trees in the hedgerow are spliced, laid down sideways and interwoven. This encourages dense growth, making the newly laid hedge a good barrier and brilliant for wildlife. Hedge laying will also help prolong the life of the hedgerow.
Emma Chaplin joins the Wilder Horsham District project staff and volunteer team, as they spend a day hedge laying.
