The University of Brighton Academies Trust is looking for volunteers to join the Local Boards of academy schools based in Hastings, St Leonards and Crawley.
Local Board members are an essential link between an academy school and its community. They help make a positive impact on young people's lives; using their professional and personal skills to help shape the vision of an academy, celebrate success, monitor academy performance and ensure that staff have the resources and support they need to do their jobs well. Alongside elected parents, staff representatives and the academy's Principal, they work together to ensure that every child reaches their full potential.
Local board members include a mix of individuals from the local community and the Trust is particularly interested in hearing from individuals who have experience in:
· primary or secondary education
· fundraising and marketing
· working with the local community
· local businesses
· volunteering with children or young people
· strategic planning.
Full training and support is also given, providing volunteers with board-level leadership, strategy and team working skills.
Josephine Notaras who is currently serving on the Local Board of Desmond Anderson Primary explains her role: "As a mother of four I'm a firm believer in the importance of a good education. I see my role as a critical friend to the academy and I find being a Local Board member interesting and inspiring!"
Local Board members become part of the Trust's network of 15 academies across Sussex all supporting each other, and their pupils, to excel.
