Soldiers snowy half Marathon in Estonia

On Sunday 1 May 2022, 35 members of 9 Plassey Battery, serving with British Army's 12th Regiment Royal Artillery, will take time out of their busy schedule to run a half marathon to raise funds for children's hospice, Chestnut Tree House.

The team, who are currently deployed in Estonia on Op CABRIT, will be taking on their challenge in snowy conditions and across mixed terrain.

"Taking on the challenge in Estonia is definitely going to stretch us all, physically and mentally," says 37-year-old Sergeant Simon Parkins from Thorney Island, West Sussex. "To prepare, we have been doing low level training ahead of race day."

Speaking about why the team chose to fundraise for Chestnut Tree House children's hospice, Simon says: "Our base is in Thorney Island, West Sussex, so it is close to the hospice. We want to fundraise as much as we can to support Chestnut Tree House as it is a charity that many of our soldiers have personal links with and is our brigade commander's chosen charity."

So far, 9 Plassey Battery have raised over £500. To make a donation, please visit: www.justgiving.com//9bty
