St Catherine's Hospice supporters on track to raise £140,000 after trek

A group of phenomenal hospice fundraisers returned to Gatwick Airport after a challenging trek along the Great Wall of China on Sunday 13 May. The group arrived to cheers from family, friends and St Catherine's Hospice staff in honour of their incredible feat.

The team spent seven days trekking through the beautiful region of Northern China and tackled Simatai and Gubeikou, two of the more remote and untouched parts of the Great Wall.

As well as visiting one of the Seven Wonders of the World, the trekkers also had the opportunity to explore the local area. They experienced the lifestyle of the Chinese people, slept in home stays and enjoyed delicious, local food.

Michaela Clements, Events Fundraiser at St Catherine's, said: "We had an incredible time in China and the trekkers should be immensely proud of themselves for their achievement. Many of them were doing the trek for personal reasons, in memory of people who've been cared for by the hospice, and their amazing efforts will help more local terminally ill people and their families when it's needed most. I felt so proud to accompany our incredible trekkers on their China challenge."

The group is on track to raise an astounding £140,000 for their local hospice. At the moment, St Catherine's can only care for one in three local people who need hospice care. The local charity has recently launched its Full Circle Appeal, an ambitious appeal to raise £20 million, with the help of the local community, so it can be there to care for everyone when life comes full circle. The trekkers amazing efforts will help them get one step closer to doing this.
