Remember Someone Special at St Catherine's Hospice Memory Meadow

Published: 23 May 2019

St Catherine's Hospice is inviting the local community to join them at Memory Meadow. A beautiful, quiet and reflective space in Reigate's Priory Park.

Taking place on Saturday 15th June at 11am, the event is open to everyone, of all ages, in the community and will include specially chosen readings and live music delivered in the wild meadow area.

Alongside music there will also be activities which people can take part in. This year, for the first time, there will be chance to write a message on one of the hospice’s special leaves. People can take these home, or hang them on a memory tree on the day.

Everyone attending will also receive a sunflower seed, and children will have the chance to decorate a plant pot during the event. These can be taken home with their sunflower seed to plant inside.

The Memory Meadow, which sits close to the lake at Priory Park, was first planted in 2017. A tranquil space, filled with traditional English flowers, it sits as a living tribute to loved ones. And the free sunflowers are an extension of the local hospice’s meadow.

It is hoped the flowers will bring brightness to local people’s homes. And as the sunflowers grow, St Catherine’s hopes they will remind people of bright and colourful memories with loved ones.

After the event, refreshments, served by St Catherine’s Dorking Friends Group, will be available for a donation.

Cathy Sosoli, Lead for Patient and Family Support Services at St Catherine's said, "At the hospice, we know many people get much needed comfort from remembering special times with a loved one. We believe that being there when life comes full circle includes acknowledging that our loved ones continue to be a part of our life’s journey. I hope lots of you will join us on 15 June to celebrate and remember the people you love and miss. And I hope that you'll continue to visit our Memory Meadow whenever you need to reflect."

Please note the event will take place whatever the weather.
