Your Be-Well Bulletin from Mary How Trust HQ

Hello

It has been over 2 months since we reopened our screening clinics.  I would like to sincerely thank you all for your continued support of our Charity. With no statutory or NHS funding, to provide our health screening service, we are entirely reliant on your donations - thank you.

For those whose screening was postponed due to COVID we've offered you your appointment and for those who are on our waiting list, apologies for the delay, however, our appointments team have been working tirelessly to get you your preferred appointment. If you haven't already heard from us, please do get in touch and we will endeavour to get you an appointment in the next few months.

We've had positive feedback on the measures we have put in place to keep our clients safe - all those many hours spent deciphering the ever-changing guidelines. We've kept all our measures under review and following this week's announcement by Boris we are again updating our risk assessments and ensuring we continue to operate in a COIVD safe way.

With a unique approach to your complete health and wellbeing, we're a not for profit organisation driven by doing what's best for people - helping, supporting and encouraging you to be as healthy as you can be.

Over the last few months, we've tried to put lots of content on our social media platforms to help you feel physically and mentally good. Remember to 'like us' on Facebook and 'follow us' on Twitter to keep informed.

Now more than ever our health and well-being have to take priority. Ensure you are kind to yourself over the coming months and we will ensure we keep you up to date with tips and advice to help.

Look after yourself and take care.

National Cholesterol Month

October marks National Cholesterol Month in the UK, which aims to raise awareness surrounding blood fats and what they mean for you and your health.

Do you know your cholesterol levels? High cholesterol is really common, and doesn't usually display any symptoms. It can lead to serious health problems so it's important to get it checked regularly.

Here's a great booklet from Heart UK about understanding cholesterol.

A cholesterol check is included in our health screenings- visit our website for more info.

We've got a huge selection of items on sale at our Pulborough or Billingshurst charity shops, so why not come and have a browse for some bargains? We'd be so pleased to see you, and you'll be helping us raise vital funds for cancer prevention.

We've been blown away by the amount of kind donations from the local community since our charity shops reopened. Don't forget to gift aid your items too. Not sure how to do this? Our lovely shop staff can help you.

Meat Free Mondays - have you heard of it?

#MeatFreeMonday is a campaign originally launched by Paul, Mary and Stella McCartney in 2009, and encourages people to have at least one plant-based / vegetarian day each week to help the planet and improve their health.

Reducing your meat intake can improve your heart health, reduce your risk of developing heart disease, and even promote good kidney health. Studies show that skipping just half a serving of meat every day and replacing with plant based ingredients can decrease your risk of type two diabetes.

There's lots of tasty ideas on their website to get you started, including recipes from Jamie Oliver, and some McCartney family recipes too.

Don't forget! You can still support us through Horsham District's community lottery scheme.

A ticket for the Community Lottery is just £1 per week, and 50% of that goes straight to us. Another 10% goes to other great causes in Horsham District. If we haven't already convinced you enough, every ticket has a 1 in 50 chance of winning, with prizes up to £25,000!

Autumn is here...

So What's In Season?

There are so many perks to eating seasonally. It's kinder to the planet, often cheaper and definitely better for you. When produce is grown out of season, it's usually had to travel a long way to get to the shop shelves. This can compromise freshness, taste and sometimes even the nutritional content. Why not try a local farmer's market for quality local produce? You'll be supporting your local community too.

POLL: Do you try to buy and eat seasonally?

YES

NO

We'd love to hear from you, so let us know what you have been up to, any stories or tips you feel matter and help you maintain a healthier lifestyle.

Thank you for your continued support - our service wouldn't be able to continue without you.
