Have you ever wondered what might be going through the mind of the person you meet at a networking event??

Could enhancing SELF-Wellness be considered a MAJOR Key factor

Gatwick Diamond Business Meetings provide

More than just a cup of tea and buscuits, they provide

A place
A platform
A conversation

to enhance emotional, mental and sometimes physical wellness

As WELLBEING MOTIVATOR working, who likes to regard himself as a MASTER Networker, jumping into conversations, taking pictures and adding LINKEDIN contacts from the attendee list, I attended GDB's Christmas lunch and one conversation popped out to me.

A fellow GDB member like myself was attending the lunch from a Mental WELLBEING enhancing reason.

Here are 5 proven facts why people attend networking events to improve and enhance their personal and professioanl mental health

1. Human Connection Reduces Stress & Loneliness

Neuroscience shows that social interaction triggers oxytocin, which lowers cortisol (stress hormone). People who regularly engage in positive social connections report better emotional well-being and lower risk of burnout.
Networking events create the face-to-face connection that digital communication cannot.

2. Sense of Belonging Improves Psychological Safety

Psychology research confirms that feeling part of a community boosts self-esteem, confidence, and motivation. Networking environments give people a tribe—professionals with shared ambitions, struggles, and values—which enhances overall mental resilience.

3. Exposure to New Ideas Improves Cognitive Health

Networking events stimulate the brain by exposing people to novel information, conversations, and perspectives. Cognitive science shows that this kind of stimulation strengthens neuroplasticity—important for memory, creativity, and long-term mental health.

4. Social Support Acts as a Protective Buffer Against Burnout

Social psychology research reveals that people with strong professional networks are 40% less likely to experience burnout. Networking events offer support, mentorship, and solutions to workplace challenges, providing emotional and psychological buffers.

5. Professional Progress Increases Life Satisfaction and Mental Well-Being

Career development and a sense of progress are strong predictors of happiness and mental wellness. Networking events create opportunities for collaboration, learning, and career advancement, which contribute directly to a person’s sense of purpose and fulfilment.
