Showerkap Earns Global Sustainability Nomination, Supported by Pilot at Sandman Signature London Gatwick

Showerkap, a UK Green tech start‑up, has been shortlisted for World’s Leading Sustainable Startup or Scale-Up 2026 at the World Sustainable Travel & Hospitality Awards — with the nomination based directly on the impact of its pilot at Sandman Signature London Gatwick Hotel. As a long‑standing supporter of Showerkap’s innovation, Sandman played a pivotal role in demonstrating how behaviour‑led water efficiency can transform hotel operations and deliver measurable environmental impact.

Launched at COP28 and guided by global leaders in sustainable tourism, the World Sustainable Travel & Hospitality Awards (WSTHA) uses a rigorous, evidence‑based scoring process — assessing quantitative and qualitative data, internationally recognised standards, scalability, collaboration and real‑world impact. Shortlisting follows independent evaluation by students in Sustainable Business at Nova School of Business and Economics, Lisbon, and final review by the WSTHA Advisory Board. To be shortlisted through such a robust process is a truly wonderful achievement for our small team.

Showerkap’s nomination is grounded entirely in the results achieved at Sandman Signature London Gatwick. The pilot is one of the UK’s most advanced demonstrations of IoT‑enabled behavioural water management, integrating patented shower‑fade technology, IoT sensors, behavioural science and cloud analytics. Baseline monitoring revealed extreme shower durations over 35 minutes, with single showers using up to 245 litres of hot water. After activating Showerkap’s behavioural fade technology, these high‑impact events were eliminated, delivering:

  • 67% reduction among high‑consumption users

  • 36% reduction in overall showering

  • 24% reduction in CO₂ and hot‑water energy

  • 1.9 million litres saved per year when scaled across the full hotel

These reductions ease pressure on local water sources, lower wastewater volumes and cut carbon in water‑stressed regions. Additional benefits include leak detection, real‑time maintenance alerts, automated reporting and behaviour change that extends beyond the hotel. Compared to industry norms of 5–15% savings with no behavioural impact, Showerkap consistently delivers 2–5× higher results.

Public voting is now open, and every vote genuinely helps drive water efficiency forward as a critical part of sustainable hospitality. If you can, please take a moment to vote — and share the link with colleagues, friends and partners who care about sustainability. Your support truly makes a difference.
