This Session
Managing A Fair Grievance Process
Employers and managers need to handle employee complaints (grievances) consistently and this session will develop your knowledge and skills when managing or conducting a grievance hearing.
The law requires employers to act reasonably when dealing with grievances and failure to do so could lead to unnecessary and costly Employment Tribunals, particularly if grievances about discrimination are not dealt with properly. In addition, failing to reasonably support an employee could result in a Constructive Unfair Dismissal claim.
A fair process is important as Employment Tribunals can increase compensation penalties for employers who have not followed the Acas Code of Practice. If workplace problems are settled early they become less time-consuming, are less likely to damage working relationships, therefore improving staff motivation and productivity.
This session will include:
- Resolving issues informally and when formal action is necessary
- The importance of a thorough investigation and record keeping
- Holding a grievance meeting – and how to conduct it
- Deciding whether to uphold a grievance or not
- Appropriate outcomes
- Dealing with appeals
