Asymptomatic testing - government scheme

Asymptomatic COVID-19 testing for businesses

Businesses in West Sussex with more than 50 employees could now benefit from asymptomatic COVID-19 testing.

The government scheme is open to businesses registered in England whose employees are unable to work from home.

Around 1 in 3 people with coronavirus have no symptoms and can spread the virus without knowing.

Testing people who aren't displaying any of the signs of COVID-19 is an important addition to the fight against the pandemic and returning to life to as close to normal as possible.

Sussex testing programme

West Sussex County Council is working with partners in East Sussex and Brighton & Hove to co-ordinate a programme of COVID-19 testing of asymptomatic people across Sussex.

There is adequate testing across the region for people with symptoms, and asymptomatic testing is already available to schools, the NHS, and care homes, in addition to the government scheme for businesses with 50+ employees.

Our focus is therefore on delivering asymptomatic testing quickly and effectively to priority groups who are:

  • critical to supporting communities or to responding to the pandemic
  • at a higher risk of infection and transmission
  • unable to work from home
  • unable to access asymptomatic testing through other routes

Work is ongoing to determine the specific groups that will be in the scope of the local testing programme. More information will be available in due course.
