Celebrating Success from Making a Difference

Finding a job in lockdown can be a tough experience, whether you have been made redundant or are looking to re-enter the workplace. How do you get all the job search skills you need in the virtual world?

The Making a Difference programme is supporting residents of the Coast to Capital area seeking just this type of help. Since launching in Autumn 2020 the programme has already started to work with over 200 local people to support their return to work.

The Making a Difference programme offers appointments with skilled Employment Coaches trained to help local people access the hidden jobs market, review their transferable skills and provide them with the confidence to re-enter the workplace - all for FREE. Employment Coaches work with local people for a period of up to four months to ensure participants are in the best position to access local employment opportunities.

Employment success

One of the participants re-entering the workplace, Hove resident Paul, was delighted with his experience of the Making a Difference programme. He said: "The professional and empathic approach of my Employment Coach, Julie, has greatly improved my confidence and interview skills. Achieving my new role couldn't have been done without her assistance".

Paul had been made redundant during the COVID19 pandemic and had not been able to work out what type of jobs might suit his skills. He was starting to lose confidence in his ability to get a job, needed help with his CV and interview practice.

Professional support

He secured a job after extensive interview practice on competency-based questions. The feedback he was given after the interview was that he answered the questions very professionally and gained the job as a result.

Anyone who is unemployed or economically inactive and needs help to find their way back to work in the Coast to Capital region can apply to join the Making a Difference programme.* It's free and you can access it either through an appointment with your National Careers Service advisor or by contacting them directly on 01329 559177.
