Secure your place on St Catherine's unforgettable Sahara Trek

With just over a year to go until St Catherine's Hospice's exciting 40km Trek the Sahara challenge, adventurers are being encouraged to secure one of the few remaining places.

From 3 to 8 November 2027, a small team of St Catherine’s supporters will journey across one of the world's most iconic landscapes, experiencing rolling golden dunes, stunning sunsets and unforgettable nights beneath the stars, all while raising vital funds for local hospice care.

To explain the challenge in more detail, the hospice is hosting an Information Evening on Tuesday 3 November 2026 at 7pm at their site in Pease Pottage. The event is open to anyone keen to find out more.

Nik Dargue cared for his wife Jo at home at the end of her life, with the support of St Catherine's Hospice Community Team. He shares how he was inspired to sign up to Trek the Sahara in November 2027 in her memory:

"Jo was a hugely positive person, a great motivator and a real character. I'm doing Trek the Sahara in Jo's memory. I know she would be proud of me for trying new things and pushing myself out of my comfort zone.

"By taking on this challenge, I'm opening the door to new experiences, new friendships and new opportunities. Giving something back to St Catherine's is immensely rewarding. Knowing that I'm giving to such a great cause and doing something good to help other people is beneficial for mind, body and soul.

"The support people get from hospices is invaluable. St Catherine's supported us when our whole world was turned upside down, so it's a no-brainer for me – of course I would support the charity that provided me with such an incredible service."

Emma Collins, Events and Campaigns Fundraiser at St Catherine’s, says:

"We're thrilled that our trekkers will have the opportunity to experience such an incredible adventure while supporting local hospice care. Every step they take across the desert will help raise vital funds, enabling St Catherine's to continue to support families, carers and loved ones through the hardest days and nights."
