The local hospice is once again hosting Christmas tree collections across Crawley, Horsham, East Grinstead, Redhill and Reigate* in partnership with JustHelping. In addition, this year St Catherine’s is also collecting Christmas trees in some areas of Horley, Lingfield and Dormansland, Oxted, Godstone and Tandridge* – supporting more of the local community to tick a job off their January to-do list and help fund specialist hospice care at the same time.
On Thursday 8, Friday 9 and Saturday 10 January, between 8am and 6pm, a team of Volunteer Drivers and Volunteer Christmas Tree Assistants will be out in force to collect Christmas trees. St Catherine’s is asking for a suggested donation of £20, or whatever members of the community can afford, in return for their tree being taken away.
As collections will be taking place all day, trees need to be left in an accessible, visible place outside your home by 8am on Thursday 8 January, with all decorations removed.
Last year, a supporter who arranged for her parent’s tree to be collected said, “I booked the tree collection for my parents who are in their 80’s. They love to have a real tree and this really made life easier after Christmas. It was such a useful service and a great way to raise funds.”
Like many UK hospices, St Catherine’s continues to face financial challenges due to a lack of sustainable funding, and currently the charity can only open 12 of its 24 hospice beds, so now more than ever, your support and generosity matters.
Emma Butler, who works in St Catherine’s Fundraising team, said, “Last year we raised more than £13,000 from our tree collections. This year, with your support, we’re hoping to raise even more. By utilising our tree collections, you’ll be helping to fund specialist care for people living with a terminal or life-limiting illness in the local area and helping the environment too. We plan to have more than 70 amazing volunteers ready to come and collect your tree and we’d like to thank them in advance for donating their time to support us.”
Bookings for tree collections across all areas are now open. Registrations will close on midnight Sunday 4 January 2026 or sooner if capacity is reached so book early to avoid disappointment. Please note, only pre-booked Christmas trees can be collected.
