An increasing number of children from across the Gatwick Diamond are cared for at East Surrey Hospital, which serves East Surrey and large parts of West Sussex, with Gatwick at the centre of the area. The hospital cares for children from newborn babies, to teenagers, with everything from planned operations, to emergency care, and caring for children with long term conditions such as cancer.
The need to upgrade and enhance the facilities has become more pressing than ever. The new children’s appeal will support the refurbishment of the Outwood Ward, the hospital's dedicated children's ward, as well as providing enhancements to children's care across all SASH services. The funds raised will be used for a variety of projects, including the refurbishment of 'Giraffe Bay,' a dedicated area for young children, and the creation of a new adolescent mental health area. The appeal will also fund a transformation of a medical treatment room into a more child-friendly space, to create a new parents' room, and to make enhancements to isolation rooms for children with cancer.
In addition, the appeal aims to provide new toys and play equipment, including 'RockinR' games consoles and a sensory trolley for children with additional needs, to help make the hospital experience less daunting for young patients.
The charity (who are GDB members) are actively looking to work with local businesses on the appeal, to help spread the word, and raise the money needed.
Gatwick Diamond Business network members area invited to support this important local cause. By getting involved, members can make a real difference to the lives of thousands of children and their families here in the Gatwick diamond.
